Our Kitchen! =)

Hi Readers!

I am so tempted to update this blog despite lots of readings piled up pleading me to read them. Hehe.. =P
But, let's call it a day and it's time to report an update, and plus! Amelia has posted up pictures from one of our lab sessions! I'll reveal you what's it looked like.. yeah.. the Pharmacist's Kitchen! =P

In this opportunity, I'll let you peep inside how we dispense capsules, and cream through extemporaneous preparation! Extemporaneous preparation refers to timely preparation of a drug product according to prescription, or drug formula. To put in an easier term, it's a kind of compounding process that we need to do, yeah! by hand! not readily manufactured by the drug company.)

Present you a pestle and a mortar! Using this, we mix the ingredients together bit by bit in good proportion and make sure that the drug is well mixed!

I love doing this, and it's pink! colouring your day! hahha.. xD

After all calculation (before mixing), dilution, weighing process, and of course mixing, the drug is transferred to the capsules and/or being wrapped by the wrapping paper.

me seriously wrapping the paper, they have certain ways on how to wrap it, like origami! =P

pardon me for my camera-conscious! =P

This is the empty 500 mg capsules, and it's quite a challenge for us to fill it for the first time!

Tips: use folded paper to aid transferring! so funny when we compared our first capsules to each other, some is a bit dented  and broken (penyok.. is that how you call it in English?) Haha! and oh ya! we were so pissed off when the powdered drug falls out of the capsules when we tried to close the two halves of it!

and this is Amelia filling the capsule! She's so smart and fast so that she could have time snapping pictures around! and all these pictures go to her credit! Thank's darling! =)

Finally, finished after 2 and a half hours!! =))) 2 in wrapped paper, and 3 in capsules as requested! =)

Oh man! I forgot to label! Then the patient needed to wait a little longer! Sorry! =(

In another lab session, we are asked to prepare cream and ointments! There are three types! On of it is for acne! salicylic acid and sulphur, just like shown in this preparation!

Whose hands are these?

Then using two spatulas mixing the ingredients bit by bit.

not as easy as it seems, at least as I thought. I'm officially the last to finish this lab session! =(

After that, weigh and fill it in appropriate container (amber bottle for light-sensitive formula, this one is a usual glass, not amber). Fill it nicely, and "knock, knock, knock" knock the container against a book, cloth, or whatever to give a nice compact look, just like this one!

Amelia's masterpiece

The other ointment uses White Soft Paraffin, and it's so damn oily!

It's very hard to fill it inside nicely >.< yeah, this one is mine!

Done! washing time! even washing is very difficult, because it is super oily!

Amelia and her creams! (see the right container, it's amber!)

Ta-Da! Now you know what we do in our so-called "kitchen"! =)))

Oh! we DO have lots of fun too! =D
